DESCRIPTION
The preparation of the Master Plan for the rehabilitation/replacement of hydraulic control structures in Egypt (MPHS) includes many different activities, including consultancy, field surveying, GIS database development, geotechnical investigations, priorization of structures, strategic environmental assessment, tender documents, capital investment projects, and master plan performance, among others. The object of this activity is to enable the inspection of the substructures and underneath foundations for up to 100 irrigation structures and obtain core samples from the structures for evaluation of structural strength, as well as disturbed and undisturbed soil samples for basic soil strength parameters estimation (density, cohesion, angle of internal friction, etc.), and further structure stability analyses.
PROGRAM OF WORK
For each structure, three boreholes were mechanically drilled using a rotary drilling machine. Core samples were obtained in the material of the structure in order to carry out laboratory tests for classifications and strength determination.
Disturbed and undisturbed samples were obtained in soil around and underneath the structures in order to carry out laboratory tests for classifications and for characterization of the geotechnical parameters of the soil layers required for the analysis of the structure
