CAIRO-ALEXANDRIA-MATROUH DESERT ROAD (440 KM, 12 lanes, 19 bridges)

GEC provided quality control engineers and site laboratory technicians to extract and test samples from different locations and depths (pavement, base and subbase layers) along the old existing road to assess the structural performance of it. The following tests were performed during the project:

Earth Work (base and sub-base)

  • Proctor test using modified effort
  • Compaction level of soil by the sand cone method Sieve analysis
  • Materials finer than 75–mm by washing
  • Moisture content
  • California Bearing Ratio (CBR)
  • Classification

Pavement

   1- Bituminous material

  • Extraction of bitumen from bituminous paving mixtures
  • Stability of bituminous mixtures (using Marshall apparatus)
  • Asphalt concrete tests
  • Chemical analysis
